Useful Links
Here we collect together some internet links that may be of use or interest to members and visitors using this website.
----------------------------------
----------------------------------
Cardiff Choirs Information Exchange ( CCIE ) :- was set up to allow choirs in the area easily to publicise dates and programmes of forthcoming concerts in order to avoid clashes and unnecessary duplication. This link will take you to the homepage of Cardiff Polyphonic Choir (who host the service) which displays a link at the top of the page to a calendar presentation of forthcoming choral events in the Cardiff area. Viewing the entries as a 'List' is probably the most efficient way to review the posted information.
British Choirs on the Net ( BCN ) :- provides everything for and about choristers, concerts and choirs in the UK.
Concert Diary ( CCD ) - use this site to search for dates and locations (and more) of other concerts to suit you.
ChoraLine ( CHLN ) :- provide "Everything you need to learn, rehearse and sing."
J.S. Bach on the Internet
We should not be surprised that JSB's eminence has led to him having a significant presence on the World Wide Web some three centuries after his most productive period. Here is a selection of examples you might enjoy viewing. Please use the form at the end of this page to inform us of any others you think warrant inclusion in this list or of links here that have been disconnected.
First, a little poem about JSB and Handel.
The following short list isn't going to try to compete with the extensive list of internet resources about J.S.B. catalogued at the 'J.S.Bach Home Page'. I might be able to maintain the fewer links more reliably however and include some others!
Opinions of JSB by other composers comprise an article appearing on the Classic FM site.
How about a potted biography for the pub trivia quiz!
Maybe a more authoritative source is this extract from the Grove Concise Dictionary of Music where you will also find a small picture gallery which includes Bach's personal logo.
Or again, here is a more complete biography . This must be where Tim Taylor once got his Summer Party trivia questions from!
If you are after a particular recording of a work by JSB you would probably track it down quickly here.
And if you need to check the name of that piece by Bach which you can't get out of your head, you could always nip over to this site to listen to the MIDI or MP3 file version!
Why not give our hard working librarian a break and purchase your own copy of the works we are currently rehearsing? You might find this site a convenient source.
The Cantatas (and other works) by JSB are particularly thoroughly documented at this site.
A Google search on JSB produced 1.8 million hits and I have used some of the early ones in that list to help compile this list. It would not be surprising if some of those which Google found were not a bit more bizarre than the others. Biographies appear to be numerous but perhaps here is one with a slightly different outlook!
Good surfing!
