The choir rehearses during school term-time on Tuesday evenings between 7:00 and 9:00pm, at: Coed Glas School, Ty Glas Road, Llanishen, CF14 5DW (map).
The size of the choir is limited to a maximum of 65 members and we wish to retain a balance between voices. The size is dictated both by the size of the practice venue and of the concert venues in which we perform. We are particularly keen to recruit new tenors and basses. Our current Musical Director does not run formal auditions, but will instead have a private chat about voice range, and will listen to how your voice fits with the rest of the choir during rehearsals to be sure you are placed in the correct section.
Please apply for membership by downloading a copy of the application form (here), complete it and send it to the secretary at [email protected]. If there are no vacancies at the time you may be added to the waiting list. When vacancies appear we will invite you to attend a few rehearsals to see whether you enjoy being with us. If you then wish to join, as we hope you will, details of our annual subscription fee will be outlined (there are split payment options available e.g. per term, to assist with budgeting). The choir seeks a satisfactory level of sight reading from all its members.
The annual membership fee helps finance the costs of rehearsals, staffing and administration of the choir, and contributes to paying the fees of the professional musicians and soloists we perform with at concerts. From time to time you may be asked to purchase personal copies of the music we are to perform. In such cases we endeavour to take advantage of any bulk purchase opportunities. Such copies will remain in your ownership. You are required to take care of, and later return, any music which the choir may lend to you and are responsible for any loss or damage.
