An Evening with Bach

17th January 2026
7pm
Llandaff Cathedral

Cardiff Bach Choir's next event will be our winter concert in January 2026, celebrating the music of J. S. Bach at Llandaff Cathedral. We shall be performing his Magnificat in E Flat and the Mass in A, with guest soloists, and the British Sinfonietta.

The Magnificat in E Flat has long been regarded as one of Bach's finest short choral works and is frequently performed during the festive season. It was composed in 1723 during Bach's first year as Kantor at the Thomaskirche in Leipzip.
It has twelve movements and is scored for solo voices and full choir (SSATB), and orchestra.

The Mass in A was composed in either 1738 or 1739. It is a 'Missa Brevis' (short mass) which reworks music from some of his earlier cantatas. It comprises six movements composed for solo voices, full choir (SATB), and orchestra.
